I bought a house to renovate near Bordeaux in 1988 and moved here shortly afterwards. I have been in the building trade most of my life and spent 16 of those years renovating French properties. My passions are cars and boats, essentially classic cars and what a place to enjoy them with a good climate and empty roads. Would I ever go back to the UK to live? No, I only go back for business or to visit friends and family. |  | About my area
The Gironde is such a beautiful department with a whole host of different landscapes. Whether you prefer the rolling vineyard hills, towns and city life, or the sandy Atlantic beaches, it’s all here. You can find remote country properties never further than 10 or 15 minutes from major towns, giving you the best of both worlds. The Gironde offers some of the biggest names in the wine industry including St Emilion, Pomerol and the Medoc. The city of Bordeaux has everything with its new tramway giving easy access to the city shops, theatres, museums, cinemas etc. There is also choice of airports with Bordeaux and Bergerac both offering numerous daily flights from the UK. I can think of worse places to live. |
